Industrial Disease Claims (Other).
Not every work-related illness has its own page. If something at work has made you ill, an occupational cancer, chemical exposure, a repetitive strain injury or another condition, and your employer should have protected you, we can help. No win, no fee.
Claims for other work-related illness
Some work-related illnesses are common enough to have a page of their own, asbestos disease, hearing loss, vibration injury, lung disease and skin disease. But many other conditions are caused by work too. If something you were exposed to or asked to do at work has made you ill, and your employer should have protected you from it, we may be able to help, whatever the condition. These claims are funded on a no win, no fee basis.
Is your condition one of our main areas?
If your illness is one of these, those pages have more detail and are the best place to start:
- Asbestos and mesothelioma
- Hearing loss and tinnitus
- Hand-arm vibration (HAVS)
- Lung disease, asthma, COPD, silicosis, pneumoconiosis
- Skin disease and dermatitis
- Work-related psychiatric injury
If not, this page, and our team, can still help.
What other illnesses can you claim for?
This page covers the wider range of work-caused illness, including:
- Occupational cancers, such as bladder cancer from dyes and rubber chemicals, nasal cancer from wood dust, and skin cancer from oils, tar or sun exposure.
- Chemical and metal poisoning, from solvents, lead and other toxic substances.
- Repetitive strain injury and other upper-limb disorders, such as carpal tunnel syndrome and tendonitis from repetitive or forceful work.
Many of these are recognised industrial diseases, and some carry an entitlement to state benefits as well as a possible claim.
How do you know if you have a claim?
The thread running through every claim is the same: a diagnosed condition, caused or materially made worse by your work, where your employer fell short of its duty to protect you, by failing to assess the risk, control the exposure, provide proper equipment or check your health. Time usually runs from when you knew your illness was linked to work, which is often the date of diagnosis rather than the exposure, so it is worth checking even if the work was long ago. We will look at what happened and give you an honest view.
How we help
We act for people across South Wales and the South West with the full range of work-related illness, drawing on the same approach we take to the better-known conditions: the right medical and occupational evidence, tracing former employers and their insurers even where a business has closed, and a straight assessment of whether you have a claim. Tell us what you were exposed to and what it has done to your health, and we will tell you whether there is a claim to bring or point you to the right page. To talk it through, you can request a callback or contact our team. Guidance on controlling health risks at work is available from the Health and Safety Executive.
If you're not sure whether your illness counts, tell us what happened at work, that's usually all we need to point you in the right direction.
Our approachClear advice. Practical next steps.
Every industrial disease claims (other) matter is different. We start by understanding your situation before we recommend an approach.
